Martin Gray was keen to thank the committed Darlington supporters who helped to try and get both of the club's games on last week.

About 25 volunteers arrived in the early hours at Heritage Park on Boxing Day, and although that day's game with Wakefield

was called off due to a frozen pitch, a similar number of supporters were also keen to help on Saturday morning.

Saturday's game with Salford City got the go-ahead after passing a 9am inspection, and Gray said: "The volunteers over the past 48 hours coming down to the club on Boxing Day and on Saturday, their effort was brilliant.

"Something like 20 or 30 people came down with their pitchforks in dreadful weather, trying their best to get the games on for the club.

"It's a massive thank you from me - they are the heart of the football club. Coming across here from Darlington, leaving the house at 7.30am to be here, it's nothing but heartwarming to see that kind of commitment."
