CELTIC NATION are back on top of the Ebac Northern League following a single-goal win at Morpeth last night.

Nathan Luscombe had an effort cleared off the line, but he provided the cross for Micky Rae to head his 11th goal in his last eight matches.

Shildon could return to the top, though, if they beat Bishop Auckland in the local derby tomorrow evening.

Guisborough Town came from a goal down to beat Billingham Synthonia 2-1 at the King George.

After a goalless first half, Synners took the lead with an effort by Michael Sweet on 56 minutes, but Danny Johnson levelled on 75 minutes and then he got the winner with a penalty on 82 minutes, taking his tally for the season to 21 league goals.

Dunston UTS and Consett drew 1-1. Consett took the lead when the Dunston defence waited for the whistle to blow, but Michael Mackay took advantage to run through and score on 32 minutes. But UTS levelled immediately through Micky Dixon from a left wing cross.

In the Northumberland Senior Cup, Newcastle United Reserves won 3-1 at North Shields.

Kieran Wrightson gave Shields the lead in front of a 730 crowd, but then Macauley Gillhespey and Adam Campbell hit back to put the Magpies in front before half time.

Campbell got another in the second half.
