Wildcats enjoy their second win
6:12pm Sunday 13th October 2013 in Sport
Durham Wildcats secured their second BBL Campaign win of the 13/14 season after making the long journey south, to defeat Surrey on their home court 79-100.
The Wildcats started where they left off following an emphatic win against the London Lions last week with another bright start against Surrey opening up an early 4-12 lead capitalising on early errors from the home side. Surrey made up for their early mistakes by tying up the game at 12-12 but the Wildcats pushed on once again to end the first 21-27.
Durham displayed some explosive play to begin the second quarter handing them their biggest lead of the game of 14 points at 30-44 with Devin Ginty and Mike Allison providing majority of the points for the Wildcats. The momentum stayed with the visitors as Durham showed no mercy against their opponents to create a 22 point deficit ending the half looking rather comfortable at 49-62.
Despite Surreys' efforts to claw their way back into the game, the Wildcats kept them at bay managing to hold onto their double figure lead throughout the third quarter. The Wildcats were firing on all cylinders but it was RJ Evans, Devin Ginty and Mike Allison coming up trumps to provide Durham with a 62-79 lead on the buzzer.
The fourth saw both sides struggle to make a basket in the opening minutes but Mike Allison finally broke the deadlock from his own rebound with the score at 62-81. Once again Surrey gave their all to shorten the deficit but it wasn't to be good enough as a 15 point gap was all they could manage at 77-92.
The Wildcats closed out the game in great fashion with Ginty making the headlines with 7 three pointers and 25 points to give Lee Davie and his side their first away win and their first century of the season at 79-100.
