Mitchell sets early pace as Roper suffers blow at Rockliffe
ROCKLIFFE HALL started life as a European Senior Tour venue this morning and their very own Roger Roper suffered disaster on the opening hole.
When Roper was due to tee off at 10am in the third group, his caddy went missing. Rather than join him at the first, his caddy went to the tenth, which is usually the first at Rockliffe but was moved for the English Senior Open.

The caddy eventually arrived 90 seconds late and Roper suffered a two-stroke penalty and, despite a straight drive down the middle of the fairway, Roper opened up with a triple bogey seven.
Had his caddy been five minutes late, Roper would have been automatically disqualified from the event.
Kent's Peter Mitchell was the early leader after making birdie at the first and third to move to two-under, while Frenchman Marc Farry has joined him.
All 72 golfers are now out on the County Durham course and the early rain has stopped to improve conditions for the golfers and the strong gathering of spectators.
