Liverpool boss loves his attacking duo
BRENDAN RODGERS has hailed Liverpool's SAS strikeforce for keeping Liverpool in the Premier League top four after leaving managerless Sunderland defeated last night.
The Black Cats turned in a much improved top-flight showing in front of more than 41,000 at the Stadium of Light yesterday but Liverpool were still deserving of a 3-1 win.
The Reds, now second behind leaders Arsenal after leapfrogging Tottenham on goals scored, were brilliant going forward when Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez showed how hot they could be together this season.
After scoring the first, Sturridge teed Suarez up for his first two goals of the season on his first game back after returning from a ten-match ban.
Rodgers said: “I'm not sure there are two better in the league. There's a few around like Rooney and Van Persie. We have changed our system to accommodate the players we have and those two are up there with the best in the country.
“Steven Gerrard made a breathtaking pass for the second. But Suarez and Sturridge will only get better together. We have done a lot of work with them in training. Those are two different types of forward as well, so it makes it hard. The dynamics of them are very good.
“Luis is not fazed by much. He has remarkable mentality. The steel in his mindset is phenomenal. For us it is like a new signing coming back in to the team. His talent, our supporters, deserve to see a player of Luis Suarez quality.”
