Hartlepool United 1 Oxford United 3
HARTLEPOOL UNITED fell to a fourth home defeat of the season, as they fell to a 3-1 reverse to Oxford.
The Us dominated the first-half, but were under plenty of pressure in the second half as Pools raised their game to draw level.
Just five minutes had gone when Ryan Williams made the most of Pools’ failure to clear and the midfielder, on loan from Fulham, neatly curled his low shot home from 16 yards.
The Us were far superior in the first half, but Pools levelled two minutes after the restart. Luke James was on hand in the area to slot in from close range, for his fourth goal of the season.
But Pools didn’t make the most of their much improved performance and were caught on the counter-attack.
Deane Smalley was teed up in the area on 67 minutes to pick his spot low and find the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
James saw a close-range effort kept out by the legs of keeper Ryan Clarke, but the Us clinched things in injury time.
Keeper Scott Flinders tripped Scott Davies in the area and Asa Hall put away the penalty.
Pools were reduced to ten men in injury time when Steve Howard was red carded for a foul on Jonny Mullins.
