Durham see off Nottinghamshire to win County Championship title for third time
DURHAM have done it. They wrapped up their third county championship title in six seasons at 2.30 today, setting a club record of five successive wins when they beat Nottinghamshire by eight wickets.
They had to wait for the rain to clear, but when play began at 1.30 on the third day they had all their second innings wickets standing and needed only a further 62 runs to reach their target of 69.
ROCKY IV: Mark 'Rocky' Stoneman hits the winning runs, punching a four through extra cover
Keaton Jennings fell lbw to Harry Gurney for 21 with the total on 57, but Mark Stoneman’s unbeaten 35 left him needing 14 from the final match at Hove next week to reach 1,000 championship runs for the season.
He had the honour of scoring the winning runs, punching a back-foot four through extra cover off Paul Franks.
Scott Borthwick still needs 15 for his 1,000 after falling for a duck today, driving Gurney to mid-on when only eight runs were needed.
