Yorkshire v Middlesex (day one, lunch)
2:16pm Tuesday 17th September 2013 in Sport
Andrew Gale and Kane Williamson teamed up to guide Yorkshire out of trouble on the first morning of their crunch match against Middlesex at Headingley.
Needing victory to keep the pressure on Division One leaders Durham, who needed 21 points from their remaining two games to claim their third title in six years, Yorkshire lost two wickets inside the first three overs after losing the toss and being put into bat.
While Durham started impressively and bowled Nottinghamshire out for 78 on the first morning at Chester-le-Street, Yorkshire slipped to 1 for two with Adam Lyth falling lbw in the second over to Corey Collymore and Phil Jaques edging Tim Murtagh behind.
But captain Gale teamed up with Kane Williamson, Yorkshire’s overseas player, to forge a determined 62-run stand before rain halted play 15 minutes before lunch.
