Lambert makes his maiden international start as England tackle Moldova
RICKIE Lambert makes his maiden international start this evening as England entertain Moldova in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley.
With Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Andy Carroll all unavailable, Roy Hodgson has been forced to turn to Southampton striker Lambert as England look to secure a much-needed victory ahead of next week's more testing trip to Ukraine.
Lambert came off the bench to score on his international debut against Scotland last month, and will start as the central striker with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott playing on either side of him.
Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard will play alongside each other in midfield, despite a succession of England managers struggling to get the best out of the duo when they have been paired together.
Arsenal's Jack Wilshere completes the midfield line up, with Manchester United duo Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley both left on the substitutes' bench.
Kyle Walker starts at right-back in place of the injured Glen Johnson, with Hodgson preferring Ashley Cole to Leighton Baines on the opposite flank.
England cruised to a 5-0 win in the Moldovan capital Chisinau in their opening World Cup qualifier, and start as strong favourites to record another victory this evening.
Their main rivals for World Cup qualification are also in action, with Ukraine surely certain to see off San Marino and Montenegro hosting Poland in Podgorica.
