Transfer Deadline Day
Updated 2:46pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in Sport
This live event has finished
But the full story still appears in tomorrow's (well today's as it is now) Northern Echo.
Sunderland busy all summer, Boro busy for weeks, but nothing happening at Newcastle or Hartlepool.
Pools wasn't for the want of trying or hoping, but as for Newcastle.... who knows.
Still the transfer window reopens on January 1, so no doubt Joe Kinnear is ploughing through that contacts book of his already.
Plenty of analysis and news in the Northern Echo later.
Back page put to bed, last page done. And Boro sneak in a final one with Jacob Butterfield signing from Norwich on a three-year deal.
No formal confirmation from #Boro, but forward Kei Kamara has signed. Two-year deal, but waiting for confirmation of international clearance— @Scottwilsonecho 02 September 2013
Deadline passed, but still plenty of news coming through.
Or not coming through.
Our back page is more or less drawn up now, hole to fill waiting on some more confirmations. One of those a North-East one.....
Meanwhile, Stephane Sessegnon's departure to West Brom is also now confirmed.
The Benin international has signed a three-year deal at the Hawthorns, and moves for an undisclosed fee which is understood to be £6m.
And now it's double delight for Sunderland supporters. The club have also confirmed the signing of left-back Andrea Dossena from Napoli.
Finally, a completed deal to talk about.
Sunderland have confirmed the signing of striker Fabio Borini on a season-long loan from Liverpool on their official Twitter feed.
There are mounting suggestions that Stephane Sessegnon's proposed move from Sunderland to West Brom could be in jeopardy as the Baggies have been offered the opportunity to sign Romelu Lukaku instead.
Lukaku enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Hawthorns last season, and would prefer to rejoin the Baggies rather than move to Everton.
Chelsea are looking to offload the Belgian on loan again, and a return to West Brom could potentially mean Steve Clarke plugging the plug on his proposed £6m deal for Sessegnon.
Shame that Matty Fryatt is on verge of Forest move. He would have been good for Boro, who did ask the question to Hull.
Genk's general manager has confirmed that Middlesbrough will not be signing Jelle Vossen despite tabling a considerable offer.
Boro remain hopeful of completing at least one deal today, with Kei Kamara the most likely arrival as he has been on Teesside today for talks.
Elsewhere, Everton and West Brom are locked in a tussle for Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea, Shane Long is poised to leave West Brom and join Hull, while Marouane Fellaini remains on the verge of a move to Manchester United.
It seems every club in the country at the minute is waiting until as near to the deadline as they possibly can before confirming new arrivals!
Come on Boro and Sunderland, speak out first...
Plenty of activity - although precious little of it in the North-East.
Marouane Fellaini hands in a transfer request three hours before the window closes. He's either desperate, or on the Sky Sports pay roll to try to make things interesting.
Everton have also been linked with a possible loan move for Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku. I can think of a certain Tyneside-based club who could certainly do with a centre-forward like that....
Interesting development in the Marouane Fellaini saga.
The Belgian international has taken matters in to his own hands by arriving at Everton to hand in a transfer request with under three hours remaining.
Fellaini wants to push through a move to Manchester United, who have been reluctant to pay thr £25m asking price.
Kei Kamara has been on Teesside today and is edging closer to a move to Middlesbrough.
Boro still in talks to complete the deal, but there is a confidence things will be done.
Whether further moves for Norwich pair Jacob Butterfield and Dani Ayala will be done today is unclear. If not, they could still arrive on loan later.
Fellaini reported to have handed in a transfer request at Everton to try and force a move through to Manchester United
RT @Athletic_eng: Ander #Herrera has agreed a five year contract ahead of joining Manchester United for 3,6 million € year #DeadlineDay— @Jared_S17 02 September 2013
It's a busy transfer day in the North-East. There will be more info on all the goings on in Tuesday's newspaper.
Sunderland and Middlesbrough both going to have incomings and there has been developments on potential outgoings, even if Boro are standing firm to keep their men.
Hartlepool also still actively looking for a striker and are trying to make progress.
Newcastle, meanwhile, well .... we might just have a blank space where deadline day news might have been.
Hearing that Middlesbrough have rejected another offer for Grant Leadbitter from Nottingham Forest.
Forest have been in constant touch with the Riverside over the last few weeks and sources close to the City Ground claim they have now made six bids.
However, Boro are understood to have turned down the latest, believed to be around the £3m mark for the midfielder.
Tony Mowbray wants to strengthen not weaken his squad and is still hoping to conclude the signatures of Kei Kamara and another. Norwich pair Jacob Butterfield and Dani Ayala are on the radar.

Nottingham Forest have made a fresh bid for Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter.
The bid, which is understood to be around £3m, is the latest in a long line of approaches to have emanated from Forest this summer.
Boro have stood firm so far - but can they afford to reject a £3m offer?
And Sunderland will do well to get Gylfi Sigurdsson from Spurs. The Black Cats can't make any more loan signings, but do have the £6m from Sessegnon's potential sale.
David Wheater was a previous target of Boro but he signed a new four-year contract at Bolton recently. He will not be returning to the Riverside tonight, according to sources close to the Riverside.
There is also a determination to keep Rhys Williams regardless of any interest from Wigan or anybody else.
Boro linked on Sky Sports News with a move for David Wheater - their former defender now with Bolton. Then again, The Northern Echo did say they were interested a month ago.......
A £6m bid has been accepted by Sunderland for attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon.
The Benin international is now looking to finalise the deal at the Hawthorns after spending the day there waiting for progress.
The agent of Fabio Borini is claiming that his client has passed his medical at Sunderland's Academy of Light.
A season-long loan should be confirmed shortly, taking the Black Cats' list of summer signings under Paolo Di Canio to 13 names.
Would be mad if we got Jelle Vossen and Kei Kamara! Either way if Kamara comes he has to grow the beard back #boro http://t.co/5PL5GwIU3X— @gibgod 02 September 2013

Boro are interested in Jelle Vossen from Genk. The £4m-rated striker is available at the right price, but it is difficult to imagine the Teessiders paying such a fee for a player.
The only way that is likely to change is if either Rhys Williams, interesting Wigan, or Grant Leadbitter, wanted by Forest, are sold.
Stephen Ireland has arrived at Stoke for his medical. It's happening. That's a blow to Boro
Newcastle might have sniffed a bit, but it looks like Wigan could be the team which pays big for Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes.
The Latics are in talks to sign the £6m-rated Rhodes. The Magpies, on the other hand, don't appear to be in talks to sign anyone.
How times have changed.
When Alf Common became the world's first £1,000 footballer in 1905, moving from Sunderland to Middlesbrough, the transfer announcement took the form of a poster that was displayed in the window of the Northern Echo offices in Middlesbrough.
Maybe we should be doing the same with Gareth Bale.....
Cardiff have landed Peter Odemwingie for £2.5m from West Brom. At least he managed to get his move this time, rather than sit in a car park at Loftus Road until midnight.
Sounds like Stoke City are closing in on Stephen Ireland. That is bad news for Middlesbrough if it happens, there was real hope he would arrive on loan in weeks ahead.
Another blow to Tony Mowbray is that Reading have offered £1.8m for Luciano Becchio. That partly explains the reasoning behind turning his attentions to Kansas striker Kei Kamara.
Looks like #Boro have lost out on another target as Stephen Ireland looks set to join Stoke City in a season long loan.— @FriendArmy4 02 September 2013
The news that Arsenal have inquired about Demba Ba makes it even less likely that Newcastle will sign anyone today.
Newcastle also inquired about Ba's availability last month, although a deal was never really likely because of the finances involved.
The Magpies were unwilling to match Chelsea's proposed £3m loan fee, and are not in a position to pay Ba's wages, which were increased significantly when he left St James' Park to move to Stamford Bridge.
Sunderland are hoping to sign two players today - Fabio Borini and Andrea Dossena - but the deal for the latter might not be straightforward.
Dossena, who is has been deemed surplus to requirements at Napoli, was close to joining Torino last month.
However, he failed a medical because of a muscular problem and Sunderland will insist on a medical of their own at the Academy of Light before a deal is agreed.
Arsenal have agreed a deal with Real Madrid to sign Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil, Press Association Sport understands.
The 24-year-old is now set to discuss personal terms over the proposed transfer, believed to be a club-record bid of 50million euros (£42.2m), and then look to complete a medical ahead of the 11pm transfer deadline.
Striker Ji Dong-Won is staying at Sunderland. Or at least he isn't moving to Germany, where Borussia Dortmund and Hamburg have previously shown an interest. The Bundesliga window has now shut.
Tomorrow in training with Paolo Di Canio the South Korean will be working on his heading!
Mesut Ozil edging ever closer to a £42m deal with Arsenal. He's in London for a medical despite apparent late interest in him from Paris St Germain.
If the Gunners can pull of the deal for the German international, that is likely to end the interest in Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye.
Arsenal, like Newcastle, still need a striker though and Chelsea's Demba Ba is under consideration at both clubs.
Liverpool have announced their third signing of the day after confirming Chelsea forward Victor Moses had joined on a season-long loan.
Gareth Bale has passed his medical at Real Madrid and will get his first taste of life as a Galactico on Monday afternoon when he is presented at the Bernabeu.
Fabio Borini has arrived at Sunderland's Academy of Light training ground ahead of completing a season-long loan from Liverpool.
He'll likely be a replacement for Stephane Sessegnon, who looks set to leave the North-East to join West Brom.
Borini's record at Liverpool is hardly sensational, but he had quite a reputation in Italy when he moved to Anfield.
Deadline day was much better when you had to wait for the Ceefax pages to turn around and then discovered a loan signing from Bury on p8/12— @loughlinecho 02 September 2013
There are growing suggestions in London that Crystal Palace are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Seb Larsson.
Presumably they weren't watching too closely as he struggled to make an impression on Saturday...
Yes Sess has been a very naughty boy, but don't sell him, at least he brings a bit of excitement. #safc— @Hendo1980 02 September 2013
SUNDERLAND are deep in discussions aimed at bringing both Fabio Borini and Andrea Dossena to the Stadium of Light. Talks are understood to be going well, and the prospects of both deals happening are positive.
Stephane Sessegnon could be leaving the Black Cats, however, as West Brom have made a formal inquiry about his services.
The Baggies have expressed a willingness to pay around £4m for the Benin international, but are currently unwilling to match Sunderland's £6m valuation of the striker.

MAN UNITED: Plenty of speculation that Man United are looking to hijack Arsenal's proposed deal for Mezut Ozil.
However, it's understood Man United's two main priorities are Marouane Fellaini from Everton and Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera.
Both of those players are more likely to arrive at Old Trafford than Ozil.
According to realmadrid.com Gareth Bale is the club's first 'Welch' player

LIVERPOOL: Liverpool complete deal for Paris St-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho after earlier bringing Tiago Llori to the club. The two deals are reported to have cost Liverpool £25m
Having looked into the transfer crystal ball, here's some deadline-day predictions:
Newcastle will hold on to Cabaye and sign no one. Joe Kinnear will get a lot of criticism for his lack of activity, but in fairness, it won't be his fault. His pay as you go mobile ran out of credit first thing this morning and he's struggling to get it topped up.
Sunderland will sign Fabio Borini on loan from Liverpool and also land a left-back, which will probably be former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena. Paolo Di Canio will have fallen out with both of them before 3pm. Ji Dong-won will leave to a German club on loan, but the Black Cats will be left with Lee Cattermole and Phil Bardsley as the window closes.
Middlesbrough will also complete a couple of signings as Tony Mowbray casts his net far and wide. They're seriously looking at Kei Kamara, Jacob Butterfield, Matty Fryatt, Stephen Ireland and Daniel Ayala. Perm two from those five, and you'll probably be about right.
Away from the North-East, Arsenal will sign Ozil, Spurs are looking at Fabio Coentrao and Stoke, Liverpool and Palace already have completed deals in the bag.
Don't expect Wayne Rooney or Luis Suarez to be on the move - they're going nowhere.
Oh, and Harry Redknapp is desperately driving round in his Range Rover with his window wound down, looking for someone to talk to.
Deadline day eh? You can't beat it.
Come on then Boro. Hoping for lots of positive activity in the next 12 hours or so. Spend wisely! #DeadlineDay #Boro— @HugoDowlen 02 September 2013

A new striker attracting Boro's interest is Kansas City striker Kei Kamara. It is believed Middlesbrough have already been in discussions with the American club.
Kamara is due to arrive in Britain on a flight today in the hope of securing a deal to England. Middlesbrough are one of a few clubs in the frame.
It's clearly going to be a busy one, with transfer spending already soaring around the £500m mark for this transfer window.
And with Arsenal agreeing a fee of £45m for Mesut Ozil, the figures are only going to increase by 11pm tonight.
Today might be a good day to be an agent, I think we are too late to sit the exams!

No news from the North-East, although another name to have emerged in the frame for Middlesbrough overnight is former target Jacob Butterfield.
Tony Mowbray is exploring a number of avenues today in the hope of filling the holes in his squad he has. Butterfield and Stephen Ireland are the midfielders on the radar.

I love but hate today, I always expect #nufc to make some big signings but always left disappointed. #provemewrong— @AntonyBurns 02 September 2013
Suggestions this morning that Benoit Assou-Ekotto could be on his way to QPR today. Given Sunderland's need for a left-back, I'd be inclined to go for him over Andrea Dossena.
Deals have already started to go through, with West Brom signing Morgan Amalfitano - the brother of Newcastle's Romain - from Marseille.
Stoke have also signed winger Marko Arnautovic on a four-year deal from Werder Bremen. Liverpool have completed the deal for Sporting Lisbon's Tiago Llori.
And it's only 8.30 ...
