Bronze success for Turner
NORTH OF ENGLAND and North-East champion Lydia Turner won the under-17 3,000m bronze medal at the England Athletics Under-17 and Under-15 Championships at Bedford.
The 16-year-old Birtley athlete, three times winner of the BUPA Junior Great North Run, clipped over two seconds off her personal-best, clocking 9 mins 48.20 secs to finish behind Warrington's Harriet Knowles-Jones (9:37.64) and Charnwood's Hannah Nuttall (9:43.23).
Turner, who won £500 in June as the first North-East woman to finish in the Blaydon Race, just held off Shaftsbury Barnet's Sophia Parvizi-Wayne ((:49.02) to take third place.
*Gateshead Harrier Emily Stewart, who suffers from cerebral palsy, won the Disabled Age Groups Championships ambulant 200m at Bedford in a personal-best time of 36.40 secs. The T38 athlete also took the silver medal in the 100m in another life-time best of 16.27 secs.
Jarrow and Hebburn's T20 athlete Aidan Turnbull was second in the ambulant 200m in a time of 24.02 secs and finished third in the 100m (11.75).
