Torquay United 0 Hartlepool United 0
HARTLEPOOL United have now gone five games without a goal after playing out a goalless draw at Torquay.
Pools made the long trek to the south coast seeking their first win of the season, but returned tonight without a goal and with a point for their efforts.
It was an, at times, uneasy performance from the visitors – although they almost won it at the death.
In injury time, midfielder Bradley Walker took Jon Franks cross in the area, and, as keeper Martin Rice closed him down, he poked his finish wide of the post.
In a torrid start for Pools, they could have been behind after a matter of seconds.
Neil Austin had to block a goalbound shot with just 14 seconds on the clock and Karl Hawley twice headed over by the time four minutes had passed.
Steve Howard was forced off at half-time after suffering a cut cheek during a physical battle with the home defenders.
His replacement Luke James had Pools first shot at goal, pulling away into space on the right and seeing his shot saved by Rice.
The Gulls had a goal chalked off for offside towards the end when substitute Elliot Benyon turned in from close range.
