THE afternoon session proved frustrating for Durham after asking Yorkshire to follow on 299 behind.
They took an early wicket when Adam Lyth played round a ball from Chris Rushworth and was lbw for ten, but Phil Jaques and Kane Williamson took the score to 123 for one at tea.
After spending 80 overs in the field in the first innings it was going to be a tall order for the Durham bowlers to keep going for the rest of the day and it didn’t help that they were a bowler short with Mark Wood off the field.
Jaques led a charmed life, particularly against Ben Stokes, who had a confident lbw appeal turned down by Martin Bodenham with the batsman on 28.
On 40 he top-edged Stokes just over Phil Mustard’s head but reached a 72-ball half-century by hitting Scott Borthwick through extra cover for his seventh four.
Jaques was on 66 at tea with Williamson on 36.
