Craig wins second swimming gold
NORTH-East paralympic swimmer Josef Craig grabbed his second gold medal at the IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal, winning the S7 100m freestyle.
The Jarrow 16-year-old, joint winner of last year’s Northern Echo Local Heroes Awards, had already won the 400m freestyle and finished second in the 50m freestyle.
Craig won by 0.15 seconds, beating Australia's Matthew Levy into second place.
"I'm not really a sprinter, I'm more of a long-distance racer but I've been working hard on it," Craig told the BBC.
"It usually takes a while for me to get into the race and Matthew was off like a bullet in that second 50m.
"I don't know how he did it and I don't know how I pulled it back either because, with 25m to go, my legs felt like they'd fallen off and my arms were dead.
"I've been practising my finish vigorously and it must have seen me through."
