Newcastle Eagles' title hopes suffer setback

NEWCASTLE Eagles' BBL Championship title hopes suffered a setback this evening as they lost 100-94 at home to the Surrey Heat.

Charles Smith excelled in a game-high 31 points for the second-placed Eagles, but it was not enough as contributions of Travis Holmes (19), Julius Joseph (18) and Chavis Holmes (15) spurred the fifth-spotted Heat to victory over the champions.

The misery continued for the point-less Mersey Tigers, who slumped to their 26th loss of the campaign with an 87-76 reverse against the second-bottom Durham Wildcats. Andrew Keister led the visitors with 18 points as the Wildcats kept alive their play-off hopes.

Finally, a 25-point haul from Alex Owumi helped lift the Worcester Wolves to a 94-76 triumph over the London Lions.
