STEVE GOLLINGS will consider Ayr’s Scottish National meeting for Conquisto after the promising novice chaser made it two wins from four starts over fences at Southwell.

The eight-year-old had been put in his place by leading Arkle Trophy fancy Overturn at Doncaster and was then beaten on heavy ground at Kelso after making a successful debut over bigger obstacles.

However, Conquisto (1-2 favourite) got back to winning ways when making most of the running in the 32Red Novices’ Chase.

Travelling kindly for Tom Scudamore, he shrugged aside his main challenger Jack The Gent to score by four and a half lengths.

‘‘That was a relief. He’s gone from strength to strength. Last time at Kelso the testing ground found him out, but the ground suited him,’’ said Gollings.

‘‘He’s going the right way. He had a bit of match practice at Doncaster behind Overturn.

‘‘Any ground suits him apart from extremes.

‘‘We’ve got no firm plans for him at the moment. We’ll take him home and have a word with his owner Phil Martin and hatch a plan, maybe.

‘‘Aintree probably would come into the equation and possibly Ayr. Speaking to Tom he thought he might go well there. Plans are fluid.

‘‘He’s not got the gears of Overturn but he’s a similar type of horse.’’ Noble Legend came out on top in what turned into a three-horse war for the 32Red.com Handicap Chase.

The 13-8 favourite capitalised on a final-fence mistake by longtime leader Have You Seen Me to win by three-quarters of a length from Gentleman Anshan, who won the race for second place.

‘‘It was a good performance. He really had to buckle down and stick his head down,’’ said jockey Andrew Thornton.

‘‘Two miles at Wetherby was probably a bit sharp for him last time, but it may have set him up for today.

‘‘It made him race and he was quick and slick over the last three.

‘‘Thankfully we jumped the last and the other horse (Have You Seen Me) missed it.’’ Paul Nicholls had a rare runner at this track but Wilton Milan (5- 4 favourite) proved a winning one when taking the 32Red Casino ‘‘National Hunt’’ Novices’ Hurdle in cosy fashion.

The five-year-old jumped into the lead two out in the hands of 3lb claimer Ryan Mahon and had too many guns for the opposition, coming home three and threequarter lengths clear of Houndscourt, with Gas Line Boy third.

‘‘It worked out quite well. He’s had a little break and had a wind op,’’ Mahon told At The Races.

‘‘He was struggling a touch on heavy ground and this decent ground seems to have helped.

‘‘His future lies in front of him over fences and a little but further.’’ Limpopo Tom defied top weight to score for Irish trainer Paul Flynn in the £32 Bonus At 32Red.com Handicap Hurdle.

The 6-1 chance bounded clear by three and three-quarter lengths from the favourite City Press in the hands of Noel Fehily.

‘‘We didn’t go a great gallop early on, we picked it up in the middle of the race. It suited him,’’ said Fehily.

Jennie Candlish saddled her first winner for 67 days when Yippee Kiyay (9-2) got home by a length and a half from Riddlestown in the 32RedPoker.com Novices’ Handicap Hurdle under Sean Quinlan.

‘‘He ran some nice bumper races and he’s taken a bit of time.

He’s got his head in front hopefully he can do it again,’’ said the Staffordshire trainer.

Liam Treadwell forced the Ed de Giles-trained Mutanaker (7-1) to collar Youm Jamil right on the line to snatch the 32RedBet.com Handicap Hurdle by a head.

‘‘I wasn’t sure if I’d won. He was tough and really dug deep for me,’’ said Treadwell.

Ballyhooley Boy (12-1) won the concluding bumper for trainer Robin Dickin and jockey Ben Poste.
