ALAN Pardew has made seven changes to the side that won in Kharkiv on Thursday night as Newcastle United attempt to pull six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with a win over Southampton.
As expected, goalkeeper Tim Krul will play no part in today's game after damaging his ankle in the closing stages of Thursday's 1-0 win over Metalist Kharkiv. Rob Elliot replaces him as he makes his first Premier League start for the Magpies.
Danny Simpson, Mapoiu Yanga-Mbiwa and Massadio Haidara drop out of the back four that lined up in Ukraine, with Mathieu Debuchy, Steven Taylor and Davide Santon returning to the side.
Cheik Tiote has recovered from illness to take his place at the heart of midfield, with Yoan Gouffran and Jonas Gutierrez also restored to the starting side.
There is no place in the side for Vurnon Anita, Sylvain Marveaux or Shola Ameobi, with Papiss Cisse set to line up as a lone centre-forward.
