It was not all doom and gloom for Eaglescliffe professional Graeme Bell after he was unable to recapture the form which saw him open up a three shot lead at the halfway stage of the PGA European Seniors Tour qualifying school.

Bell could only manage a closing two over par 73 for a level par total of 284 over the Vale da Silva course Pestana Resort, Portugal, on Thursday.

It was a spirited performance yet disappointing result for the popular Teesside pro which left him outside the magical top six who were all awarded full playing rights for the coming season.

However, Bell’s final placing of tied 14th earned him a conditional card which enables him to compete in a limited number of events this season.

Rockliffe Hall’s Roger Roper was also left to rue a number of missed opportunities over the course of the four day challenge. His eight over par left him in 44th spot and he will have to rely on a limited number of sponsor invites to take his place alongside Europe’s over 50s elite.
