HARTLEPOOL UNITED picked up a determined point in a 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town.
After falling behind in the first half, Pools showed some character and determination to level in the second half as Charlie Wyke bagged a leveller.
Early on and a Jordan Richards cross was met by Steve Howard, but his header was too close to keeper Chris Weale.
Then Jon Franks tried to beat Weale from distance, only for the keeper to backpedal and tip over the bar.
Scott Flinders made a couple of saves before he was beaten on 23 minutes. Pools failed to clear their defensive lines with any conviction and, when a cross sailed in from the right, Jon Taylor was able to finish.
But instead of collapsing as has been the norm this season, they responded positively.
A leveller arrived on 55 minutes when the ball fell for Wyke in the area and his shot took a deflection on its way to goal – it was his first strike for the club after moving on loan from Boro.
But from then Pools sat back and invited pressure and were indebted to two stunning Scott Flinders saves in injury time to preserve their point.
