TRAINER Victor Dartnall is hoping for some help from the weather as he looks to saddle his first runners in over a month at Exeter on Thursday.

Dartnall was forced to shut down his stables in November after an outbreak of equine herpes in the yard, but he has recently been given the allclear by the British Horseracing Authority to make entries again.

The Barnstaple has declared Silver Commander and Shammick Boy at the Devon circuit.

However, the trainer’s plans could be foiled as heavy rain is threatening the meeting, with a precautionary inspection called for 8am.

Dartnall said on Twitter: ‘‘We’re looking forward to having our first runners ExeterRaces tomorrow after six weeks out of action. This drop of rain may scupper that though.’’

Today’s meeting at Downpatrick must pass an 8am precautionary inspection. Heavy rain has been forecast.
