DURHAM seam bowler Chris Rushworth has signed a contract extension to the end of the 2014 season.

The Wearsider came through the Durham CCC academy and signed his first full professional contract in 2010.

He cemented his place in Durham's bowling line-up last season, taking 38 Championships wickets at an average of 16.39, giving him the third best bowling average in the country behind team-mate Graham Onions and Somerset's Abdur Rehman.

Rushworth said: "I'm delighted to sign a new contract extension with Durham. 2012 was a tough season for the club but on a personal level I was delighted to take 38 wickets and felt for the first time I'd really established myself in the first team.

"I'm hoping to push on to the next level in 2013, a huge year for the club and hopefully we can perform to the levels we know we can and bring some silverware back to Emirates Durham."
