ZLATAN Ibrahimovic's incredible overhead kick was one of those moments that will never be forgotten in football. Few players have the ability never mind the audacity to try such a shot, but the Sweden striker did on Wednesday night against England.

Chief football writer Paul Fraser looks back on ten of the best goals ever scored, but does the Super Swede’s rank higher than the rest?

Diego Maradona v England 1986

Minutes earlier he had infamously jumped to use his hand to beat Peter Shilton to the ball and put Argentina ahead in the quarter-final of the World Cup. What happened next, though, was more special - and legitimate.

Maradona took possession inside his own half, completed a turn that has now been named after him to leave Peter Reid and Peter Beardsley trailing behind him. Reid continued to chase, but was nowhere near him when the former Napoli man hopped around Terry Butcher, Terry Fenwick and Steve Hodge to finish off the most memorable goal in World Cup history.

Carlos Alberto, World Cup 1970

THERE is one goal that defines the way the great Brazil team of 1970 played and that arrived in front of 107,000 fans inside Mexico's Azteca Stadium. Over the years Carlos Alberto's goal has been replayed over and over and football fans never appear tired of seeing it.

When Clodoaldo starts things off, moving one way, then the other to embarrass the tired Italian forwards, he then fed the ball wide for Jairzinho to charge down the line.

Jairzinho then slides a pass to Pele, who effortlessly opens up his body, takes a touch before rolling with weighted perfection for the onrushing Alberto to hammer, first-time, with the outside of his right boot in to the corner of the net.

Lionel Messi v Getafe 2007

HAD this been in a World Cup or Champions League final then it would be on a par with Maradona or Carlos Alberto's wonder goals. The fact that it was in the Copa del Rey, however, should not be held against Messi, who did his best to repeat Maradona's heroics of '86 in a Barcelona shirt.

His first two touches took out two Getafe players inside the Barcelona half, he then charged away from them at speed before rounding a third player.

After slipping past a fourth yellow shirt as if he wasn't there, Messi then rounded the keeper before applying a chipped finish over the sliding defender's legs on the line.

Manuel Negrete v Puebla in mid-80s

Manuel Negrete's most famous goal was the acrobatic volley he scored for Mexico helped knock Bulgaria out of the 1986 World Cup. His greatest goal, however, is one of the best ever.

That arrived for his club side Pumas UNAM against Puebla before the finals. When the ball came in to the area, he somehow controlled with his chest, then his thigh before teeing himself up with a cushioned header. With his back to goal he then carried out an exceptional overhead kick which remains one of the finest goals ever scored in Mexico - possibly beyond.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic v England, 2012

When a stranded Joe Hart's poor clearance dropped towards him, standing well out on the right, the Paris St Germain striker had no right to try what he did.

To find the net from a difficult angle, it required a player to have technique, imagination and an arrogance/confidence to instinctively deliver. Ibrahimovic had all of those.

He arched his body, had both feet at least a yard off the floor and he somehow conjured up an overhead kick which dropped over the line to secure his fourth goal of the night and a 4-2 win for Sweden.

Rivaldo v Valencia, 2001

Not content with scoring both goals against Valencia as Barcelona headed towards recording a 2-2 draw at Camp Nou, the Brazilian rose above the rest on the pitch to highlight his outstanding talent.

At the peak of his career, and with just one minute remaining, Barca needed something special to qualify for the Champions League.

When Frank de Boer's centre dropped in his direction, he had his back to goal and teed himself up for an overhead kick with the deftest of chests. The finish was just as good, finding the bottom right corner with extreme power and placement.

Zinedine Zidane v Bayer Leverkusen 2002

With the Champions League final poised at 1-1, , Real Madrid always had something special in their ranks to pull off the victory at Hampden Park. Few could have imagined how special.

With the clock ticking towards half-time, Roberto Carlos surged down the left and hooked a crossed high towards Zinedine Zidane.

The Frenchman stood, unmarked, and watched the ball drop in his direction. It seemed to take an eternity to drop and as it hung in the air, Zidane shaped up and then dispatched a left-foot, his unfavoured foot, volley in to the top corner.

Marco van Basten v USSR, 1988

One of the greatest strikers in Holland's history delivered a number of fantastic goals over the years and his best arrived in the final of the European Championships.

When the USSR lost possession, the Oranje attacked and when the cross from the left looked as if it had been over hit beyond the back post, van Basten's ability to conjure up some magic came through.

As the ball dropped in front of him, he somehow turned his body, left the floor and struck the sweetest of volleys in to the far corner with incredible technique.

Mauro Bressan v Barcelona 1999

Thirteen years ago Fiorentina delivered one of the finest overhead kicks of all time - and in a Champions League against Barcelona in 1999.

The build up was scrappy, but when the ball drops towards him from 25-yards out he somehow arches his body, with his back to goal, and rockets in a thunderous volley in off the underside of the bar.

Papiss Cisse v Chelsea, 2012

It was one of those nights when everything went right for Newcastle United. Everything also went right for the Senegal striker.

Having already scored one good goal, Cisse then had a moment to savour for the rest of his life at Stamford Bridge.

When Ryan Taylor's throw-in down the line was nodded in to his direction by Shola Ameobi, Cisse ran on to it and struck the bouncing ball from near to the touchline with the outside of his right boot which curled high above Petr Cech and hit the top corner.
