Scouts' holiday celebration
 |
| Simon and Richard Howe with Elgin Group Scout leader Geoff Allen |
TWO brothers joined in the Scout movement's centenary celebrations, despite being on holiday. Although they were more than 300 miles from their Newton Aycliffe troop, Simon and Richard Howe made sure they could take part in a 100th anniversary celebration.
On August 1, while on a family break in Lossiemouth, Scotland, they attended a local troop's centenary party. Simon, 12, is in the 1st Newton Aycliffe Scouts and his brother, Richard, nine, is in the 1st Newton Aycliffe Cubs.
They contacted the 2nd Elgin Scouts - whose group Scout leader Geoff Allen is from the Newton Aycliffe area - and joined them at 5am on a beach overlooking the Moray Firth to watch the sunrise, enjoy a barbecue breakfast, raise the standard, and renew their Scout promises.
