A YOUNG man born with a rare genetic disorder that causes mental impairments and medical problems is to help fellow sufferers – and be a voice for all people with disabilities.

Paul James, 26, of Eggleston Street, Consett, who has been selected as a part-time facilitator to the County Durham Learning Disability Parliament, has launched a charity drive to raise cash for Lowe Syndrome Trust.

The trust funds medical research into the condition, which affects only boys.

Paul’s first event will be a race night at the Consett Golf Club, at 7.30pm on Saturday, June 6. He has contacted celebrities who have donated raffle prizes.

They include a signed book from Gordon Ramsay, a signed CD from Simply Red and a hospital scrub signed by cast members of Holby City. Admission is £3 and includes supper. For further details, call 01207-502186.
