Schools visit to Darlington

STAFF from schools across Europe have been paying a visit to a Darlington primary school.

As part of the EU Comenius project which aims to develop European links teachers from schools in France, Germany, Hungary and Newcastle visited Dodmire Junior School.

The mayor of Darlington Ian Haszeldine also welcomed the visitors.

Children at the schools have been working on a joint project called Healthy Body, Healthy Mind.

They have been learning different languages in school and performed as play of the Wizard of Oz for the visitors.

They also presented them with story sacks.

Liz White, the Comenius co-ordinator at Dodmire, said: “The project is for two years and teachers visit each country and share good practice and share information with a view to doing exchanges.

“The project will finish in July 2010 and we’re hoping to do an international sports day with children and link up by video link.

“The children have loved it.

“We teach French anyway and the children also love doing the sports.”
