Now in his second decade as a major recording star, Irish singer, Dominic Kirwan has just released his latest album, Stone In Love With You.
Dominic is coming to the Fairfield next week as part of a 40-date tour to promote his latest offering which was recorded in Nashville.
Though titled from the 1970s Stylistics/Johnny Mathis hit, this is no carefree cover fest.
While he enjoys putting a personal stamp on country and pop hits, Dominic has tapped into a whole number of fine American songwriters.
I seem to have an affinity with a songwriter called Skip Ewing, said Dominic, it is a 16 track album and I am doing five of his songs along with some other covers and original numbers.
This is the second album Dominic has recorded in Nashville, and he will be returning to the States after this tour to begin work on a new album.
My old manager who had been looking after me for 10 years sadly passed away and I found myself at a crossroads.
It was suggested to me that I go to Nashville to record, but I just took it with a pinch of salt.
Then I thought why not and it has been great.
It seems Nashville and Dominic were made for each other.
As soon as I got there I felt relaxed and it was a great working environment, everyone got on with the job but enjoyed it at the same time.
When I went to record the last album it was exactly the same except better.
Dominic goes on to say: I think there is a lot more of the real me on the new album.
I was able to be a lot more open when I was in the studio.
With some well known songs on the album and some originals, which does Dominic prefer singing?
It is always nice to do a cover version. I always like to try and put my own stamp on a cover so it's not exactly the same as the original.
There is always something very satisfying about recording an original song, you can make it your own.
I don't actually write, but there are lots of songwriters who do not perform, they rely on people like me to interpret their work.
And so far the tour is going very well.
I would not say we are playing to packed houses every night but it averages between 75-80 percent.
Nothing can beat the feeling when an audience comes to see you and gives you that extra spark and there's such a sense of achievement when you send them home happy.
After the tour which ends in May, Dominic is heading back to Nashville to start work on his next album so catch him while you can.
Dominic Kirwan will be bringing his unique blend of country/Irish/pop music to the Fairfield Croydon on Tuesday, April 24.
