“Politics – Cutting Through the Crap” by Bali Rai and illustrated by Chris Riddell.
Do you want to know what capitalism is? Or who Karl Marx was? Or what happens in the House of Lords? If you do - this is the book for you. It is a modern day, biased, anti-textbook guide to politics that well untruly cuts through the crap, just like the title states, and has been acclaimed as an essential alternative guide to politics for young people today.
The book talks about the British parliamentary and electoral systems, political parties and ideologies and also issues concerning the youth in the UK, such as the media, Iraq, Global Warming and Immigration. These subjects sound drier than Amy Winehouse's barnet on a bad day, but when they are laced with Rai's witty literate style and Riddell's utterly hilarious illustrations, these so-called boring subjects suddenly transform into hysterical and utterly gripping ones.
The book makes fabulous holiday reading and is ideal for those who are considering going into politics, the media or those who just want to know more about Rupert Murdoch and George "The Cat" Galloway. In spite of its bias, rude illustrations and bullet points, it is most definitely worth a read.
