The Axeman Cometh

2:08pm Wednesday 18th April 2001

If it's blues you're after, a trip down to the Worcester Park Club on April 30 may be well worth the effort.

Otis Grand and the Big Blues Band are coming to the Malden Road venue, promising a wide selection of blues and RnB.

The so-called gentle giant of the genre, Otis Grand has won a hatful of awards in recent years, including the UK Blues Guitarist of the Year on seven consecutive occasions (1990-96).

In four decades on the scene, he has established himself in the first division of European blues players, through both studio and live work.

He was joined by a host of leading players on his 1992 album He Knows The Blues, and two years later he took on the US, with the hit album Nothing Else Matters, recorded in Boston.

For many years Perfume and Grime, recorded in 1996, was the biggest selling blues album in Europe, and also fulfilled Grand's dreams of success in America.

For his last studio album to date, 1998's Grand Union, Grand invited Ike Turner, among others, to guest, and it has proved his biggest selling record. Last year, he released his first ever live record - Live Anthology featuring some of the finest performances from his career. For more details call the box office on 01784 460094.
