Blood Red Shoes – Newcastle Carling Academy 16.04.08 For a two piece band Blood Red Shoes certainly generate a lot of good sounding noises which all merge together to create the thundering electronic primal punk rock music they've always loved.
As soon as they hit the stage there is no hesitation in the crowd's reaction to start dancing as they open with new single Say Something Say Anything. As Steven Ansell decides to dictate things with both vocals and drums, the pace that gathers in the space of the song's few mintues is momentous, leaving the crowd reaching for the nearest person to grab onto to help regain their balance. They have new and exiting sound which many bands are lacking these days, and they prove this by the great number of people who turned up at the academy to watch them perform. The duo played a fanastic set and instead of shocking the audience they just proved how good they really are; creating sounds just like of Sonic Youth and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's not forgetting the screaming of The White Stripes. Exciting stuff?
However after a while, the crawling tempos, unremitting smack of the drums and nest of the guitar sound make you feel as though you're being repeatedly hit round the head with a heavy object but its all worth it because its hard to get music better than this!
Over the past few years Blood Red Shoes have really been noticed because of their unique sound and experimental style and I think its safe to say they'll be around for a long while yet.
