Jack Peñate– Newcastle University 03.03.08 British singer, song writer and musician, Jack Peñate is back in Newcastle with more indie pop than ever before. He's known for his soulful ska-fuelled songs and eccentric dancing and his live performances always receive very high praise.
On stage Jack leaps higher than he's ever leapt, he rocks a fantastic falsetto and grins from ear to ear with pride whilst the audience soak in his brilliant entrance. Most of the dance floor is populated by the younger more naive fans that seem to be wearing exactly the same clothes that Jack himself has on.
He consistently ups the ante, with a dashingly soulful, jiggling, juddering Learning Lines' and to tone down he plays the soul ballad "My Yvonne" which has hands swaying to and fro. Every song Jack managed to play was greeted with enthusiasm and word-for-word joining-in from the crowd. Jack is a born entertainer with a lot of charm and it's clear that his heartfelt sentiments are never anything less than utterly genuine. There is something about him that makes him feel like one of us, even if it is the fact you can almost taste the sweat cascading from him every time he shakes his head, but nevertheless the crowd are too busy having the time or their lives to care.
