Girls Last Choice - The Forum - 19/02/08 - Rachel Sinclair
Girls Last Choice
Girls Last Choice

When I entered the forum I was looking forward to the Ruined from Peterborough and Key side Strike both hardcore punk bands. Though to my amazement as I entered the main bar the majority of the crowd seemed to have the first bands logo over there t-shirts whom were a new and upcoming pop punk band called Girls Last Choice. From seeing them a year ago as a sluggish outfit I didn't expect that they would have such a passion following of all ages to there show. When it came to the band going on stage the crowd were greeted by a burst of energy from front man kipper whom introduced the band and quickly began flying through there set. What stuck out whilst watching, was the difference the band had to other typical pop punk bands, this was due to the heart felt effort my each member made to the band. The emotional vocals and speedy guitars of guitarist Stephen Lodge were perfectly backed up my accomplished drums of drummer Dave. Here I could tell from the set, was band whom actually believed in what they were saying, where each song had something to say and the energetic front man let the crowd know especially with the track never forgotten' whom was dedicated to friends of the band whom had passed away. The half an hour of set seemed to pass very quickly with gentle banter between the audience, one example was the song sexist girl' dedicated to all the girls in the crowd, this is probably the catchiest song I have heard for a long time. With the uplifting end of the last song hit the lights' I felt very surprised that a band whom could not play in time a year ago have become a real live force live and have one of the biggest following of an ever reducing live music scene within Darlington. The only downfall was the technical level of the music though with songs like these no one in the crowd seemed to care. With a future ep out soon and a batch of catchiest songs heard tonight I can see good things in the future for Girls Last Choice.
