Matthew Dear – Newcastle University 28.02.08
Texas born Matthew Dear moved to Michigan as a teenager, where he was inspired by the sound of Detroit Techno; an early style of techno music. He has always been a one-man wrecking crew, dropping two new albums in 2007 while his third one, Audion, killed it on the remix front. Dear is also a pretty good DJ, he's definitely someone who is able to walk the line between minimal techno and dance floor accessibility. Matthew certainly knows how to put on a good show, he was accompanied by his band including a bassist and a drummer, while Dear handles the vocals and triggers the synchs and sequences on his computer. The sounds created at the university ranged from poppy electronic to minimalist techno to funk-friendly rock, and for these music artists Apple Mac's always seem to pop up somewhere.
There's definitely a pulse to his music that kept the whole crowd moving, everything seems to morph together along with his robot dancing. Matthews's music completely focuses on the dance floor and everything to do with people losing their heads.
I hope that you will give him a listen to understand the true talent in this man. I think you may be surprised.
