Kerrang Tour 2008 – Newcastle Carling Academy 05.02.08 The Kerrang Tour 2008' comes to Newcastle with a very exclusive line-up featuring; CIRCA SURVIVE, FIGHTSTAR, MADINA LAKE AND COHEED AND CAMBRIA.
Circa Survive, the opening band have done nothing but gain momentum all the time they've been together. Every gig they play their crowds become larger and larger, and now they've hit the Kerrang Tour, they're attracting a lot more fans. They proceeded to command the next half hour with their complex melodic music, filled with soaring guitars and high, angelic vocals.
Young British band Fightstar seem to have a small but committed fan base, and win over nearly half of the audience with their grunge-laden vocals, heavy riffs and catchy choruses. It's clear that Charlie ex Busted member enjoys what he does now, but would never be the headlining act.
High pitched screams welcome Madina Lake as they bounce onto the stage with their brand of pop, punk and infectious energy. Stand out track, House of Cards was immense and the build up for the last chorus propelled huge balloons filled with confetti onto the onlookers. Their music goes down a treat with the younger fans in the audience.
All you could hear now were the chants of Coh-eed, Co-heed which echoed throughout the whole venue. Front man Claudio Sanchez; a mass of wild hair, guitar solos and falsetto vocals entered the stage followed by the band. Their sound is a mixture between progressive inspired power-rock and pop, and it certainly had Coheed's die-hard fans singing along to every song.
The tour had a lot of mixed genres and in my opinion that's what made it stand out from all the others so well.
