Darlington Forum- NewBlood- 4th March Thursday 2010


NewBlood is a fortnightly event for 14-17 year olds at a cost of £3, not including refreshments. The event allows local and low profile bands a chance to play to up the fans whilst expressing themselves. For more information go to:

The two bands on this week were Awkward Situations and it was also the fantastic return of the fantastic return of Dissolved In.

Opening the evening was Awkward Situations, from Darlington.

Who’s who?

Tom- Lead guitar

Michael- Rhythm guitar

Heather- Lead vocals

Tom- Bass

Jack- Drummer

How did you get the name “Awkward Situations”?

“The name was from a previous band that I was in and wanted to carry on”- Michael

When did you form and how?

The band formed in February 2010 at Newcastle Music when they were introduced to each other.

What is your genre and influences?

“Pop/ Punk”

They are mainly influenced by each other and happiness, but they generally experiment with things.

Who would you love to open for?

“Lady Gaga”- Heather

“We generally want to be at a place where people are opening for us”

What would you ask for if you could get anything to play at a gig?

“Strippers” – Jack

Alongside that they also just want fans, biggest audience etc.

“How did you get into music?”

They mainly got into music with their families and just the great feeling music brought them.

“What is your favourite song to play at a gig and how were you inspired to write it?”

“For you”- All.

The song was generally inspired by drunkenness and after an acoustic version, “everything went into place”.

“What is your musical goal?”

“To get famous”- Heather

They would also love to write the best song ever and become legends.

“What do you do outside of the band?”

• School

• Work

• Skateboard

• “Just cool teenage stuff”

“What are you thoughts on NewBlood?”

“Awesome”

“Amazing”

“What’s coming up in the future?”

“More gigs”.

On Stage

Whilst on stage they entertained the crowd with their own songs, such as “For You” but also did a few covers such as “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz. They gave a good performance and kept them entertained by talking to them and keeping the energy levels high.

For their first gig they should be utterly impressed.

Headlining the evening was the spectacular Dissolved In, from Redding.

Who’s who?

Alec- Bass- “The Godfather” because before Alec the band were “lost boys” and their dance routines weren’t up to Alec’s standard.

Jamie- Lead guitar- “Annoying driver”.

Dan- Vocals- “The alcoholic slut ”/ “Mr Right”

Stuart- Drummer- “Hat man”- “Stuey 2 hats”, from his DJ days and he is occasionally “Rent Boy”, if the gig doesn’t pay.

When did you form and how?

“We met on this dating website, it was basically speed dating in Rotherham and after the 30 seconds per person we gradually met each other.”

“We’ve been together about 2 years”.

How did you get the name “Dissolved In”?

“I have no idea”- Alec

“Our aim as a band is to influence other people to follow their dreams and pursue a none normal of 9-5-esque lifestyle so our kinda plan is to ‘Dissolve In’ to our fans lives.”- Stuart

Genre/Influences

They started off as Pop/Punk, to which now they don’t want to pigeon hole themselves so they class themselves as “Alt/Rock”.

The main influences are:

Who would you love to open for?

• Blink 182

What would you ask for if you could get anything to play at a gig?

Dead cute bunnies (the cuter the better)- Alec

Michael Jackson’s hats- Stuart

One of Tom Dillon’s used condoms- Dan

How did you get into music?

They got into music by dancing and listening to various music and it is “the only thing that makes us happy” that everyone can relate to.

What is your favourite song to play at a gig and how was it inspired?

They like to play new songs each gig to stop getting bored.

Peter Pan Syndrome- “it’s just following our dreams and it is a young thing to do”.

What is your musical goal?

“To get famous and laid”

“We could continue to do what we want to do forever and having no worry and be a band who is always on the road and working with other bands and see all the cool festivals in America and Germany”.

What do you do outside the band?

• Write songs

• Regular jobs

• “We made the decision to make this our lives”

What was the thoughts of NewBlood?

They enjoy doing NewBlood each time they play, this was an exciting NewBlood as it was the first one for Alec.

What’s coming up in the future?

The band will be recording soon to release a new EP and a lot more gigging, there is also a surprise coming soon.

On stage:

Whilst on stage they played a spectacular set, kicking off with “forever is over”. The crowd bopped and sung their way through the likes of “first impressions”, “peter pan syndrome”, “without you” and ending with “egocentric”.

They seemed to enjoy themselves and everybody else enjoyed it too, I would recommend going to:
