I caught up with the boys from rock pop band, Elliot Minor after I won the 'Two Thiry Volts' School competition for the band to play at my school back in Febuary 2010.
What is it like coming back to school to play shows for your fans?
Alex: The last thing we did was probably the MySpace tour, last year, which I suppose wasn’t as intimate as this. We had all the band there and a live set though.
Ed : We actually went back to our old school to play, which was quite cool. That was a while ago though.
Do you have a favourite city or show which you play?
Dan: Any of the main ones really, Newcastle, Manchester, London.
Ed : The turnout seems to be the best out in bigger cities, but when you go to like, really obscure places you get like the most mental crowds. Its kind of like you’ve got to compromise.
Alex: London’s always a good one!
Since you started the band, have your influences changed?
Alex : Yeah. We used to listen to kind of American Pop Punk, but now I guess I listen to more of a variety of stuff, rather than one specific genre.
If you could switch places in the band for a show, what would you do and why?(not aloud the ones in alternative electric high video) Ed: Think I’d defiantly have to go to Drums, so much fun.
Ali : Dan your so lucky Dan : I’d go for drums aswel Ed : I wouldn’t go bass, Ali: either drums or lead singer Dan: bass would be boring. Your just standing there.. Nobody wants to be a bassist Alex : I’d play the drums aswel yeah.
If you could tour with any band who would it be and why?
Ali : Coldplay!
Dan : Celion Dion. No not really Alex : Shakira or Coldplay Do you have any festivals lined up for the summer?
Alex : We don’t know yet. Hopefully!
Who has been your favourite band to play with?
All: Simple Plan. We toured round Europe with them Which is your favourite song to play live from your first album and your favourite from your second album?
Dan: Shiver from the second, Alex : yeah Ed: probably parallel worlds Alex: I like playing Jessica live actually Do you think the response to ‘Solaris’ was different and as rewarding as the response you received from ‘Elliot Minor’?
Alex : Album wise? We haven’t really managed to get the second album out with the amount of PR as the last one, but I think the response it’s had, were pretty happy with it I think.
Were you surprised that ‘Solaris’ is going to be used for the BBC Winter Olympics? How do you feel?/Managed to get in on that!?
Alex :Yeah, its cool. Its starts tomorrow. A guy who works there, is a big fan of the band, he played some of our stuff last summer, a track called running away. Yeah he’s just a big fan of the band.
Do you have any unusual party tricks or special talents?
Alex: I can do the moonwalk with my genetails. [All laugh] [attempts demonstration] Aha no I’m joking.
Ed :Imagine if a teacher walked in and saw that. Sorry about that.
Ali : Nothing can beat that.
Ed : Alex can open bear bottles with his teeth Alex: I haven’t done that in a while. You’ve got to do it with your teeth, I bet when you get older though you’ll start loosing your teeth.
Dan: [Points at Ed] You can probably fit a 2p coin up your nose [Alex is asked to do the beer bottle trick] Alex : We don’t have beer, do we have beer? Have you not seen me do it? I do it quite a lot.
Who has the most annoying habits?
Ali : Alex. That moon walking with the genetails just gets to much for me Alex : Its three times a day, its quite obsessive Dan : Ed makes a clicking noise [demonstration] he just randomly does it Ed : Come on its not that bad.
Ali : You must have the strongest tongue ever.
Audience asks : How do you do it?
Ed : It’s my jaw cracking, no its not really. It’s my tongue. To be honest, I don’t know how I do it.
Ali : Have you been doing a lot of kissing?
Ed : My sister taught me actually If you could be one female person in the world who would it be and why?
Dan: We’ve been asked this before, I said Susan Boyle.
If the world blew up and you had to repopulate the world again with one person, who would it be and why?
Alex : One person. Hm. Carl, on the iPhone. Talking Carl.
Ali : Me. Because everybody would get on with me Dan :Everybody would mutate, it would be weird.
Ed: Defiantly not you, your too opinionated Ali :Oh, my opinions would be the same. I’d get bored then wouldn’t I? I’d repopulate the world with you then Ed Ed : A world of Alex’s would be a disaster though, maybe a world of Gary’s.
Alex : The world come into so much debt it would blow up.
