AFTER track five of this, The Stereophonics' seventh album, I was about to give up, unmoved as I was by the limp, tried and tested formula on offer.

However, my perseverance paid off because by track six things started to look up.

Whereas the first few numbers trod a very familiar path, including the new single Innocent, with lyrics so predictable I had a little game with myself predicting what the end of the next line would be, the second-half was a far more vibrant, energised affair.

It may be that I will grow to like the preceding tracks over time, but for now I'll keep calm and carry on to the rest.
