Community Garden Skerne Park

Our aim at the community garden is to make Skerne Park school a healthy school by growing fruit and vegetables, from a seed to a fully grown edible product, as we watch the changes as it grows and develops into a fully grown vegtable.we have recently expanded our growing space to enable us to grow even more next season.

At the moment it looks like a bit of land with planting beds empty, as it is not the season to be growing the plants as they will die. We are also putting new footpaths in and new green house to grow the seeds in.

A group of community volunteers are really committed to making the garden really attractive you can help with this project if you have any spare time.

We are always looking for people to help what ever there age to, transform the garden in to a dream world .you can help by contacting park east partnership, or skerne park school. We grow any thing from: >carrots >broccoli >sprouts >potatoes >sun flowers >green beans We are building a raised herb bed by recycling an old bath to grow them in I am among the group of volunteers they are a really nice group to be mixing with as they are making our community that we live in, to a dream world that we wished for.

We won an award of the northern echo and was presented by David Bellamy of who is a famous naturist we won £25 from a competition ran by the Northern Echo to spend on our garden.

I know that £25 is not enough to buy a wind turbine, but it is enough to buy a plaque which is a piece of metal on a stand or hung up with our names on.

I enjoy going round the community garden as I love been out side and learning how certain plants grow. It is fantastic.

Also last but not least we have been collecting Morrison lets grow vouchers and we have been told we have about 8,000 to exchange for materials to be used in the community garden .the vouchers were collected through skerne park school from the local community.

The vouchers will be spent on hosepipes, compost, water buts, seed trays, seeds, different sized pots, potato stack, and other useful garden items.
