An all-day long event was held at Gateshead on Thursday 30th October to celebrate the work Youth Action North East has done over the past 10 years, as well as looking forward to the future. YANE (NERYA) has been involved with some massive campaigns over the past 10 years, which have encouraged thousands of young people to get involved.
The rural campaign group was set up to try and overcome some of the barriers that young people face due to living in the countryside. Health is a serious issue that affects young people and in 2007 a campaign group was set up to help tackle this issue. Bus Buddies began in 2005, because young people were highlighting that bus services were simply not meeting their needs, this even resulted in a trip to 10 Downing Street!
The anniversary event invited young people aged 13 to 19 and youth workers to join together in celebrating these achievements, participating in games and activities, as well as discussing which issues are important to young people currently, and coming up with ways these issues can be tackled in the future.
The event drew to a close with a musical extravaganza, with everyone being shown how to play a variety of different percussion instruments, whilst others were taught to dance!
