Guitar Hero 3
Guitar Hero 3 is the fourth instalment to the series (Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 2 and Guitar Hero Encore: Rock The 80's being it's predecessors). Since it's release, sales have rocketed into the millions, causing Guitar Hero 3 to become one of the most talked about games in 2007.
The game itself has not changed too much. The soundtrack is probably the best line-up so far in the series. It includes the likes of Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Muse, The Kaiser Chiefs and even a re-recording of Anarchy In The UK' by The Sex Pistols; done especially for the game. Unlike the first three, practically all the songs are original recordings instead of cover bands.
Another change is the addition of a new game mode called guitar battle, in which the player must face off against a guitar legend such as Slash and defeat them by using special attacks. This game mode can often be infuriating on medium mode or above, by the fact that the player is rewarded random attacks; some of which are utterly useless, causing guitar battles to be more a game of luck than skill. The only other major change is that the game can now be played online. The game modes available online are face-off, pro face-off and battle.
There are a few factors of the game which could be improved. In an attempt to make as many people buy the game as possible Activision have hidden five songs (including Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Bloc Party tracks) in co-op career mode meaning they can only be unlocked by buying another controller or asking a friend over who also owns the game on the same console.
The controller itself can be very uncomfortable when playing long songs such as Knights of Cydonia' or simply by playing the game for over an hour. I strongly recommend not to go on this game for long periods as it can cause long term damage, such as arthritis and it would not be advised that arthritis sufferers play this game. The game's graphics are quite disappointing, there being little difference between the graphics on the PS2 version and the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.
Guitar Hero 3 is nevertheless a highly enjoyable and addictive game. The game's soundtrack is second to none and the new wireless guitar is a great improvement on the original. The guitar does have a slight delay, but it is only about 0.2 seconds, which is quite impressive for wireless. The game can be frustrating at times but I strongly recommend it to gamers who enjoy a challenge.
