The Unborn

This film follows Casey (Odette Yustman) as she has many haunting visions from bizarre animals and a strange little boy. As the movie progresses she manages to find out that the boy is an evil spirit, her unborn twin brother which traces back to experiments conducted on children during the holocaust.

The Big Film Guild found this film to be enjoyable but not very good in comparison to other films within the same genre. They thought that there were “Thrills ‘a’ plenty”, many parts that provide a creepiness factor. One specific part that was mentioned was the character of Eli, who gets possessed by the spirit. This turns the paralysed old man into a spider like creature in a chase through an old peoples home. The soundtrack also got a mention, helping to provide the chill factor, its slow and haunting pace helps set the tone of the film.

However the film had some criticisms. The effects were considered to be cheap. This had a negative effect on the film, ruining the horror element. One mention was “The Badger” which was basically a dog with a morphed face. The script also was mentioned as a low point, being similar to others with in the genre. It did seem a bit ridiculous with the main antagonist being a child.

On average 3.5 out of 5 By the Big Film Guild
