American Pie

The story follows a group of teens who plan to lose their virginity before they leave school to start college. The majority of the film is about the teen boys trying to find dates to take to the prom, some more successful than others.

To find dates, the guys take separate paths, one joins a singing group, another spreads rumours around the school whilst another has no luck at all. One of the guys already has a girlfriend, but his difficulty is persuading his girlfriend to have sex, she doesn’t want to rush into things and the experience to be “perfect”. He is also having trouble telling her that he loves her, causing a stale mate between the two.

Some of the funniest moments come from Jim’s Dad, Eugene Levy. These moments highlight the awkwardness that nearly all teens have felt when discussing sex with parents. Levy’s character tries to encourage his son by purchasing his pornography and sharing his experiences, causing further embarrassment between the two characters.

At the end of the film a discussion took place seeing if the film still had a cult status. It was decided that even though some aspect, due to time difference, have changed the main issues in the film still remain among adolescents.

I would give this film a 4/5. I found it funny and the storyline is interesting, however due to the content and humour style of the film, other audience’s views may differ.
