Where do I begin with for “The Truth About Forever”? The book takes you through the life of a girl who loves perfection. However she is not a perfectionist herself-like her boyfriend. When her boyfriend leaves for “Brain Camp” in the summer, she meets a new group of friends, who show her what really matters.
Macy’s story begins with a flashback to about a year and a half ago when her father sadly dies and she unfortunately witnesses it. It was during the year and a half ago when she met Jason- the perfect boyfriend who she could depend on always. Or so she thought.
The problem with Jason is he isn’t what a boyfriend should be like. He has goals in life- and a girlfriend should not come between that. His affection towards Macy is very lacking and so after sending an email to Jason, adding on the end “I Love You- Macy xx” Jason gets worried about how serious Macy is and suggests that the two should take a break for the summer and rejoin at the end to discuss what should happen in the relationship.
Whilst Macy is devastated she goes for a drive and notices the caterers who had been at her house the previous night, whilst Macy’s mother was hosting an event to promote houses- to which she sells.
When the caterers were round disaster had struck and things seemed to keep going wrong. This led Macy to go into the kitchen to help- to save her mother’s reputation. Whilst helping, Macy was offered a job to work with the caterers.
However Macy had promised Jason she would help out at the library in summer whilst he was away. Jason worked at the information desk at the library, so he needed somebody to take over.
When Macy noticed the van for the catering business she decided to go and see Delia- the manager of the business. However when she was walking, Bert, one of the caterers leaped out in a “gotcha” mode. After getting an acquaintance with Bert she managed to get to Delia. After discussion Macy managed to get the job.
This where the story begins and she meets the rest of the group that will change her life forever.
The dynamic group consists of:
Delia- The businesswoman that does not want perfection, but likes things running smoothly. Delia seems to be easy-going but gets the job done.
Bert- The joker and the pessimistic. He starts out as the joker who jumps out with “gotcha”, but it turns out to be a game him and his brother, Wes, play. Once the story takes off it seems that Bert is a bit of a pessimist and believes the end of the world is upon them.
Monica- Also known as “Monotone”, Monica is very slow and not especially bothered about anything in particular. Her responses are basically “donneven” or “hmm”. Although she does have a surprise at the end of the book which shocks Macy.
Wes- Wes is the one Macy only glances at the first time she meets him, without having a proper conversation. Wes is the cool good-looking one from afar, but it seems when he starts getting known he turns into so much more. It turns out he doesn’t really notice the girls gawping at him or anything. The friendship between him and Macy grows throughout the book and she finds out in a game of “Truth” that he is in practically the same situation. This is because his mother died a while ago and he is also in a relationship with Becky, a girl from reform school, and they are discussing their relationship at the end of summer too.
Kristy- Kristy is the last of the group that Macy meets. Kristy is the one that Macy seems to be close friends with. She shows Macy how to live her life and to get excitement out of it; it is an understatement to say that Kristy is out-going and boy obsessed.
The dynamic group show Macy how to live and she slowly starts discover herself and her personal goals and what she wants.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and couldn’t put it down!
