Loveless is a series of books written by Japanese manga artist, Yun Kouga. There are nine books in total. The books follow the death of 12 year old Ritsuka Aoyagi’s older brother Seimei, whose death was a mystery.
Upon starting a new school, Ritsuka meets Soubi Agatsuma, a twenty year old art student, who tells him that he was a friend of Seimei. Curious about knowing his brother’s acquaintance, Ritsuka gets to know Soubi.
Soubi teaches Ritsuka about a whole new world, filled with fighters, sacrifices and word-spells. Ritsuka learns more about Soubi, the other fighters and The Seven Moons Academy. He also learns more about himself. Most importantly, Ritsuka finds out the shocking truths about his brother’s death.
Along with having to put up with the strange new twists in his life Ritsuka has to put up with his home-life, an abusive mother, fitting in at school and coping with his amnesia.
Loveless is a fantastic series of books. The reader will find themselves going on a deep and emotional journey with both Ritsuka and Soubi, as both of their lives are revealed and the relationship between develops.
