GLARE: An intense glare from a bird of prey

Who or what inspired you to take up photography?

I HAVE always enjoyed looking at photographs from being a small boy.

Your first camera?

I BOUGHT it from Woolworths in Darlington for 7/6 in old money when I was about 12-years-old.

What do you most enjoy photographing?

ANYTHING really, but mostly my grandchildren and great grandchildren. I make photobooks each year for them and it is very rewarding.

Favourite picture?

MY favourite picture is the steam train at Kirkby Stephen. It reminds when we farmed the land where the Kingsway Estate in Darlington is now and I used to train spot off the bridge abutment, as a young boy the steam trains up and down the main line.

Your go-to kit at the moment?

I USE a Canon 5d mark 3 with canon f2.8 L mark 2, 16-35,24-70, 70-200mm with the last being IS, also a Sigma 105mm macro. I have also just purchased a Canon 200d with a 24mm pancake lens. It is so pocketable I tend to carry it with me all the time, using my 5D for photoshoots etc.

Advice for budding photographers?

ALWAYS take the shot you like and also always carry your camera, the best camera is the one with you. Take as many family photographs as you can and keep them. I have used a lot of mine for my memoirs.
