SPENNYMOOR came to life with a burst of colour as residents turned out for the annual town gala on Saturday.

Hundreds took to the streets in both uniforms and fancy dress as the 62nd parade made its way through the town to Jubilee Park where the community celebrations continued.

All proceeds will go towards an outing for the community's older residents with town mayor, Councillor Ian Machin, saying a trip to Redcar was being planned.

Cllr Machin also praised the gala committee, especially chairwoman Myra Smith and chairman of the Showman's Guild, John Culine, who he said had worked tremendously hard to get everyone involved in the day.

He said he was also thankful the weather had turned round after a week of rain.

Cllr Machin said: "It was really well organised by the committee again and it was nice to see the parade with all the vintage cars and all the children following the banners and from the various charities and schools.

"It was really nice to see the town full and it's always a lovely day; the sun was shining and the faces were smiling as people were having a good time."

He added: "I want to say a big thank you to the committee because they do all the work."
