THE farm manager of a North-East estate was last night crowned the 2017 Northern Farmer of the year at a glittering ceremony.
More than 400 people attended the fourth Northern Farmer awards at Pavilions of Harrogate, the Great Yorkshire Showground, to see prizes handed out in nine categories, plus the overall winner.
The event was hosted by former Look North presenter Wendy Gibson, a farmer’s daughter from County Durham.
John Aynsley, farm manager of the Skelton estate, near Guisborough was named 2017 Northern Farmer of the year.
After picking up his award from David Philpotts, head of sales at chief sponsor of the night, Mole Country Stores, Mr Aynsley told the audience: “British agriculture is brilliant, end of story.”
