ABOUT ten years ago I met the late Frank Fraser, known to all and sundry by the sobriquet Mad Frank Fraser, at the Blind Beggar public house in Whitechapel, East London.

As he spouted forth a young lady walked along the street outside wearing a burka. “That would be a perfect get-up for a bank robbery, I wish they had been around in my day,” he declared, rather wistfully I thought.

So if Boris Johnson says women wearing burkas resemble bank robbers he is only repeating what an “expert” in crime was saying a decade ago.
