IN last week’s letters Mr Macnab (HAS, Aug 4) mentioned the A1150 has a link road.

This may be, but it is and has been the busiest road in Darlington for a very long time.

Everything that comes from Teesside and Teesport going north to the A1M and vice versa travels along Whinfield Road.

While Teesport goes from strength to strength, the nightmare get worse for Whinfield Road residents. Forty four-ton HGVs, tankers, container trailers, even trains, going to Hitachi at Aycliffe use this route.

There is no lull in the incredible amount of traffic which is 24-hours non-stop. Yes, all day and all night.

During our lovely spell of weather no one can open their front windows because of the noise and the dirt that is created by the traffic. I have lived in Whinfield Road for more than 30 years, so I really know I am talking about.

Oh, I forgot about the speed limit which is a joke, especially to continental truckers.

Not to mention at the present time a number of tipper trucks of various companies working on council projects, who seem to be on a bonus as to who can shift the most loads.

Of course the by-pass would solve the problem, but what has happened to it? I would have liked to see it but at my age it seems very unlikely.
