I HAVE to agree with Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson that the Indian ex-jockey Carim ‘Frankie’ Mohideen should be allowed to stay in the UK (Echo, July 14).
Like Frankie I would have struggled to answer the questions posed to him by the Home Office test and I have lived in the UK all my life. I note Frankie has failed the test five times and if different questions are asked every time I am not surprised.
What preparation, I wonder, is given to attempt the test? The main criteria for being allowed to stay in the UK should be being a law abiding citizen, having employment and being able to speak English which saves money on the need for interpreters.
If such a citizen becomes a repeat offender under the law, it should be understood they would be deported, with their family, to his/her country of origin.
