WHAT cruel, insensitive morons could sink so low as to vandalise Redcar’s sand sculptures commemorating our heroes of the First World War (Echo, July 16)?

The vandals should remember that these people suffered and died that we might enjoy life in a free and democratic country.

Also, they should be eternally grateful that they were not born over one hundred years earlier when they could well have found themselves in the hell of the Somme or Passchendaele.

These mindless idiots should thank their lucky stars and, above all, learn to respect their heroic forebears.
